| October 20, 2007 Today, October 20, Haile Gebrselassie, 34, new marathon world record holder, is in Detroit to support a dinner raising funds for the Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association (ENAHPA), an organization founded by Detroit cardiac physician Dr. Ingida Asfaw, dedicated to alleviating the severe health care crisis in Ethiopia. The dinner, called "Faces of Ethiopia". Gebrselassie is an honorary chair of ENAHPA's Faces of Ethiopia Inaugural Dinner and attend the event, held on at the Detroit Downtown Marriott Renaissance Center. The fund raising dinner event would help fund future missions and provide a wide range of health and human services programs for Ethiopia. Gebrselassie presents was set up to increase attention for the fund-raiser. On Sunday October 21, 2007, Haile Gebrselassie will be one of the more than 15,000 athletes participating in the 30th running of the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon. Because his visit is occurring on marathon weekend, he agreed to run briefly in the event. As we know, two months ago, Gebrselassie won the New York City Half Marathon in 59 minutes, 24 seconds -- the second fastest time in the U.S. and his eighth victory in his last eight half marathons. Marathon Director Patricia Ball said "We are excited to have Haile participate in the Marathon; we've never had anyone of this magnitude to participate in the race before."
