Q: I want to ask question on oral sex. If a guy or a girl is Infected by HIV and if they
are using condom for vaginal intercourse but if they do oral sex without protection is
HIV can be transmitted from one person to another?
Tedi
A: Oral sex carries only a very low risk for HIV transmission. But it's possible
because pre-cum can contain HIV. Therefore, if a person HIV plasma viral load is
suppressed to undetectable levels with antiretroviral therapy, the risk of transmitting
the virus during oral sex to his/her partner is dramatically reduced. What a
discordant couples (one positive and the other not) must do is decide what sexual
activities are "safe enough" for the two of you, based on what is know scientifically
about the transmission-risk potential of various sexual activities and your individual
comfort levels.
Feel free to raise more questions if you have any.
