AGAINST HIV/AIDS
HIV Vaccine Awareness Day
May 18
About This Day
May 18 is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. National Institutes of
Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
(NIAID) is the lead for this day.
The Facts
Despite much research, there still is not a vaccine for HIV/AIDS. All Americans,
especially communities of color and men who have sex with men, need to learn more
about HIV vaccine research in order to make an HIV vaccine a reality.

This awareness day provides a great opportunity to thank the thousands of people
who are working to help find an HIV preventive vaccine—the clinical trial volunteers,
health professionals, community members, and the researchers.
Take Action
There are many ways you can take action in the fight against HIV/AIDS:

  • get tested for HIV
  • practice safe methods to prevent HIV
  • decide not to engage in high risk behaviors
  • talk about HIV prevention with family, friends, and colleagues
  • provide support to people living with HIV/AIDS
  • get involved with or host an event for HIV Vaccine Awareness Day in your
    community.
