HIV in Ethiopia

  • With 5000 new infections every week, some reports suggest HIV/AIDS could claim
    the lives of more than 2 million Ethiopians by 2008

  • There are approximately 1 million HIV/AIDS orphans in Ethiopia

  • Most orphans are cared for within their communities by extended family but some
    are ostracised because of ignorance and discrimination
